NOTE

Under Examiner's rules I can't publish another person's article on my site. Since I'm the approved and vetted "independent contractor" for Examiner.com with the byline I'm the only one who can write under my byline. But I can reference and quote from other articles and give the originator credit and a link back to the source. So, while you won't get paid for your efforts you'll get free publicity for yourself, your event, or your organization. And if you'd like to write and publish your own news items or commentary please talk to me about becoming an Examiner yourself. See the bottom of this page for more.

ARTICLE IDEAS

Do you have a newsworthy story to tell?

If your candidate is looking for volunteers, it's not a newsworthy article. During political season every candidate in every party everywhere is looking for volunteers.

But is your candidate debating his major party opponents and grabbing a lot of headlines? Is she running high in the polls and getting some big-name backing?

Now you've got a newsworthy article. Send me all the particulars along with a link to the source. Since I'm responsible for all facts in my articles I need to vet all stories myself.

But libertarianism is more than just politics and I want to cover the entire range of libertarian activism. Here are some headlines that describe actual past events:

Texas libertarians help defeat $1 Billion of state-funded "Private Roads"
John Stossel leaves ABC to start weekly libertarian series on Fox Business
Activist walks across America to promote Ron Paul's Campaign for Liberty
Downsize DC's "Read the Bills Act" now has 164 co-sponsors in US House
Comedian Drew Carey and libertarian Reason Foundation launch Reason.tv
Libertarian photojournalist jailed in NH for filming in courthouse
Ron Paul's son Rand Paul, candidate for US Senate from KY, on C-SPAN
Dallas libertarians participate in July 4th Tea Party at Southfork Ranch
Libertarian petitioner jailed in Oklahoma for being nonresident
Cornell Libertarians hold student protest against drug prohibition

To be treated as "newsworthy" an article must be posted on my site within 72 hours of the event, so send breaking news along with a link to a source plus any visuals and their links to me ASAP.

Sometimes I can publicize major upcoming events. The rules above apply but time isn't quite as urgent. It may be that two stories can be squeezed out of one event if you send me everything I need to post it as an "upcoming event" and then immediately after the event you send me your photos and a write-up of what happened at the event.

Commentary will be a very low priority, and then only if it directly relates to a breaking news subject. If you love to write commentary you might consider becoming an Examiner with your own page. See the bottom of this page for more.

VISUALS

Every article must have a visual - photo, illustration, cartoon, graphic, artwork, comic strip, etc. – because visuals are eye-catchers and an article with a visual is much more likely to be read than an article without a visual.

NOTE

Be VERY careful with the visuals you send to me for publication. Examiner is a for-profit commercial venture subject to lawsuits for copyright infringement. You cannot simply grab any old visual you find on the net for use on Examiner. Make very certain you comply with the following requirements.

Getty Images. Examiner has a contract with Getty. I can publish any photo or other graphic you find that's identified as Getty, Getty Images, Joe Blow/Getty Images, etc. Other visuals that specify Public Domain or the owner gives full reprint rights (including commercial use) are also okay. Please send me the visual and the link to the source so I can see it in context.

Your Photos and Art. These are best of all. Take photos of your events. Identify the people in your photos so I'll know what's going on. Get their permission to be published in Examiner.

You retain all rights to your own submitted materials and it doesn't matter if they were already published elsewhere or will be published elsewhere in the future.

You deserve credit for your submissions and I want to give you credit. You can include a title with your name if you like, such as Jose' Blow, TexMex County LP Treasurer, or Josephine Blow, President, Libertarian Students of TexMex University.

Videos. Examiner loves videos. But, again, be careful with copyright infringement. Don't pull videos off of any old website. Basically, if you can copy a video's embeded code it's fair game. YouTube and Clip Syndicate openly supply embeded codes and their usage page explicitly allows open distribution, including commercial use. So please include a link to the source of every video you send me or alert me to.

PERMISSIONS

Every article and visual of your own that you send to me must be accompanied by a statement that this is your original work, you have full rights to it, and you grant permission to use it on Examiner. If you or your group have a website it would be ideal if you could give me a blanket written permission up front as others have already done. All articles that I write will have a short shelf life and I don't want them to become "old news" while I'm trying to contact you for written permission to use a logo, graphic, photo or text I found on your website that I would love to use for the article.

OTHER CONTRIBUTIONS

Media Contact. Does your organization issue periodic or scheduled news releases? Put me on your mailing list and grant me written permission to use everything I can get my cursor on in the news release and on your website! greededitor@aol.com.

News Tips. Don't have the time or inclination to write, draw or photograph anything but would still like to contribute to the success of this effort? Become a news tipster! See a substantial story about libertarians in your local newspaper, radio or TV station online site? Send me the link and I'll do the rest. Specify whether you want your name/title mentioned as the tipster.

PUBLICATION

Whose stuff will get published and whose won't? The person who gives me everything I want when I want it has the best chance. Be accurate with your facts. Be timely with your contributions. But remember that I'll be dealing with other factors. If I just published three articles from the Libertarian Party of TexMex County I may pass on the next one. I want a wide mix of articles based on types of events, types of individuals and organizations, geographical locations, political and nonpolitical, etc. We're building a national go-to source for all libertarians and anyone interested in libertarianism. But don't get discouraged if I don't use one of your submittals! Just keep them coming!

READERS

Readers? That's right, if we don't have readers there's no sense writing and we'll never develop that great libertarian go-to presence on the web. So log in to The National Libertarian News Examiner and see how your contributions turned out. Then read the other articles. Then go to the top of the page and click Subscribe to Email and add your email address, or click the orange RSS feed and sign up that way. Or you can do the same at the top of every one of my articles by clicking the Subscribe or RSS buttons. Either way you'll be notified every time a new article is posted.

Recruit Readers. Tell all your friends about the new libertarian news page. Add a link to your website, blog, MySpace or Facebook page. Notify everyone on your subscriber's list. Talk it up on internet forums.

CONCLUSION

After all that, it's really not as complicated as it looks. Just do the following:

Permissions for everything you contribute

Links to all sources

Please be timely with your contributions

OTHER STUFF

Full Disclosure

Examiner.com is a commercial venture. They earn income from the advertising on their pages and pay me a small amount based on the number of quality page hits. This is capitalism at work. At the time of this writing I am temporarily retired from my day job and working full time on creating and launching the National Libertarian News Examiner. If I can generate enough income from Examiner to supplement my retirement income I will devote all of my energies to building this news page into the premier go-to news source where all libertarians can share their stories with one another and communicate the beauties of freedom to everyone. This effort will fail if too few libertarians become active contributors. I love this opportunity, but ultimate success depends on all of us working together. Please save me from going back to the workplace and keep me hammering away as your libertarian Examiner!

Want Your Own Page?

If you decide you want to become a fulltime Examiner with your own page please contact me first. Examiner will pay me $50 for every successful candidate they accept as an Examiner and I'd sure like to earn that money. Email me at: greededitor@aol.com
